..Un potente e inusual sistema de tormentas, raro en enero, se presentará este jueves y viernes en el sur de Texas y podría afectar la región norte de Coahuila, advirtió hoy el servicio meteorológico de los EEUU.

. RARE JANUARY HEAVY RAIN EVENT SETTING UP… AN ANOMALOUS JANUARY HEAVY RAIN EVENT IS FORECAST TO BEGIN LATER TODAY AS A POTENT STORM SYSTEM… CURRENTLY OVER SOUTHERN ARIZONA… APPROACHES SOUTH TEXAS. MOST OF THE RAIN WILL FALL DURING THE 24 HOUR PERIOD BETWEEN 6 PM THURSDAY AND 6 PM FRIDAY. STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS BETWEEN 3 AND 5 INCHES ARE FORECAST ACROSS MID SECTIONS OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS… WITH SPOTTY TOTALS UP TO 6 INCHES. LESSER AMOUNTS BETWEEN 1 AND 3 INCHES ARE FORECAST ELSEWHERE. IN PARTICULAR… THE GREATER SAN ANTONIO METRO AREA AND SOUTHERN HILL COUNTRY LOOK TO BE IN THE GREATEST THREAT AREA FOR HEAVY RAINFALL. SINCE THE VEGETATION IS THINNER IN A MID JANUARY SETTING AND EVAPORATION IS LESS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS… THESE TYPE OF RAINS MAY CAUSE FLOODING AT LOW WATER CROSSINGS… IN LOW LYING AREAS… ON SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS… AND ON FLOOD PRONE STREETS IN URBAN AREAS. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL LIKELY BE REQUIRED AND ISSUED LATER TODAY FOR TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY
