My Final Hour: Jhon Kerry
“Hello Friend,
Right now for a lot of people, it’s sinking in that thanks to this Senate and to President Obama, no longer can big insurance companies drop your coverage when you get sick – or turn you down because some bureaucrat discovers you’ve got a “pre-existing condition.”
For some giants, like Ted Kennedy, this was the work of a lifetime – a cause that took 47 years to build and build towards victory, and every step of the way lead to its passage.
But I hope every progressive and every Democrat knows it also was the work of years upon years building a Democratic majority. If ever you doubted, now you see it matters who is in those seats.
And that’s why I want to ask you today to zero in with me on four open Senate seats where the choice in November will have huge impact – night and day differences – for our country. As big as it gets.
It’s very simple: The Senate seats left vacant by Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the seat left open by health care reform’s champion Chris Dodd, and the open seat in Missouri being sought by a leading architect of the Tom Delay era in Congress, will all come down to the wire.
And oh how much the Party of No wants to crow about winning them. They want Republican victories in these races to be a big bold faced referendum on the Obama-Biden Administration and the change brought by a Democratic Senate.
The obstructionists and deniers have responded to the health care reform victory by going from “no” to “hell no.” They are attacking with everything they’ve got – the “target practice” of Sarah Palin was just a taste of what’s coming.
And these Senate seats are ground zero in the struggle to choose between a Senate that gets the job done for Americans, or a Senate that blocks, obstructs, and does the bidding of Wall Street not Main Street.
Please contribute what you can and give some great candidates what they need to fight back against the attacks coming their way.
In Illinois, Alexi Giannoulias is running to hold the open seat created by Barack Obama’s historic election, while my friend Chris Coons is running to fill the seat Joe Biden held for 37 years in Delaware.
And in Connecticut, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is running to hold the seat my friend Chris Dodd held for more than two decades — the seat from which Chris fought and won on the biggest health reform of our lifetimes. Blumenthal’s leading opponent now: is the deep-pocketed Linda McMahon of the World Wrestling Federation – prepared to spend spending millions and millions of dollars in ads to make Republicans happy in November.
Robin Carnahan is running in Missouri —running against a leader of Tom Delay’s Congress, a Congressman who brags about how bad he is on the environment.
All four of these races are close; we need to do what we can to pull these out. Please contribute what you can to help them keep our country going in the right direction.
We’ve come a very long way together since 2004, and done so much together to get our country moving in the right direction. We can’t allow it to slide back. There’s too much at stake”.
